Who Won:
Carisa. After a disaster with her carpenter making a mobile table that was neither mobile nor a table, Carisa thought she was going home. Michael told the cameras that Carisa's pieces were cliches. But she won top honors instead.
Who Lost:
Felicia. One word: afghan.
Extreme Design Challenge:
The designers were allowed to meet their clients this time. Their clients were students from the top primiere interior design schools in L.A. The top designers were to design a post-college living space where their clients could eat, sleep and work. The size of the space was only 12x12, and they were allowed 2.5 days for the challenge.
And of course, because the challenge needs a twist, they had to incorporate pieces from a garage sale in their designs. They were given a budget of $500.
Catfights:
Carisa and her carpenter. Carisa stated that she would never trust a carpenter again after this challenge. At one time, she claimed in front of the carpenter that the assembled table was a [bleeping] mess. Then the table broke.
Guest Judge: Joe Stewart, a set designer nominated for 23 Emmy Awards. He also designed the white room [designer execution room] for Top Design.
Who painted themselves into a corner this week?
Ryan. He knocked swatches and picking out paint. The judges took this as a personal affront and asked him if he really wants to be a designer. He answered: "If I can design by my own rules." The judges were not impressed. They all agreed in their judging session that if Ryan is going to be a badass, he needs the talent to back it up.
Most improved award:
Though they hated his colors, the judges stated very clearly that Michael is improving.
